Links Alive: Colorado Plateau
The Colorado Plateau covers much of Utah, Southwestern Colorado, Northern Arizon and Northwestern New Mexico. Areas in this geological province include similar geological features and layers. For large stretches of geological time, the area was covered by vast sand dunes and great seas. The result is that the plateau is covered with a distinctive collection of layers. In recent geological history, the uplift of the Rocky Mountains, has elevated the region. The rivers of the Colorado Drainage have eroded extremely deep chasms in the soft sandstone rocks carving out a number of unique features including natural arches, natural bridges, towers and canyons with awe inspiring cliffs. The Colorado Plateau contains a great concentration of National Parks, Monuments and "bad lands" that would be considered a national treasure in any other part of the world. Moab has the most scenic garbage dump in the world.
